Unlike the original MUD Defender Console that is supplied as a completely blank fascia that you cut-out yourself, the 2.0 Fascia revision comes supplied with our own switch mount housings that fit into pre-cut holes in the 2.0 fascia.
All of the switch mount holes are CNC machined for accuracy. The switch mounts simply push into place with no trimming required significantly cutting down the time required for the install.
Mimic the Defender Td5 fascia
The upper area of the fascia mimics the seven-switch layout of the late-model Td5 console and accepts any of the same factory switches that would normally fit into that same location on a Td5 Defender.
The smaller pre-cut holes to the sides of the fascia have been designed to accept two alternative switch mounts (Genuine Electric window switches or Carling switches). Both versions will accept the standard Tdci style heated seat switch.
Which radio should i fit?
The central recess of the fascia has been intentionally left blank for mounting a Single DIN or Double DIN head unit. This is the only cutting you’ll have to do yourself. We’ve included witness-marks on the reverse side of the console to act as a convenient guide when creating the cut-out in the console plastic for your mounting cage. Remember! The hole you need to cut should be based on the size of your DIN cage not the screen size. The lines on the back of the console are a guide only. Measure twice, cut once!
We offer both single DIN and double DIN radio's here should you be wishing to update your head unit at the same time as refreshing your dashboard.
Which switch option should I choose?
We have designed the MUD Console 2 to accept two different styles of Electric window switch.
Option LR accepts the (increasingly difficult to source) factory style OE Defender electric window switch and/or the window switches used in the popular Britpart retrofit electric window kit.
Option CT accepts the popular Carling Technologies Contura switches.
Choose Option ‘LR’ or ‘CT’ to suit your switch style you when ordering.
If you don’t have electric windows then we offer Genuine Land Rover Electric window switch blanks.
Which switches should i fit?
The switch mounts supplied with the MUD Console 2.0 will accept any of the Genuine Land Rover switches found in Td5 and Tdci Defenders as well as Discovery 1 & 2 models. The switch holes with the MUD Console do not have a keyway so any of the switches will fit into any of the 6 switch holes along the top of the console .
The switch mounts will also accept our own range of factory style MUD switches that provide a much greater range of switch legends than Land Rover ever provided.
Heated seat switches
The heated seat switches fit directly below the electric window switches. On the original Td5 dash the switch was a different orientation to the switches along the top row.
To make life easier (and save you money!) we have changed this so that the switch is the same orientation as along the top row. That means you can either fit the MUD Heated seat switch or the Genuine Tdci heated seat switch in that position.
What about unused switch holes?
If you don't wish to move your hazard switch across you can blank the switch hole off using the Td5/Tdci Hazard blank.
Likewise any switch holes you wish not to populate can be blanked off using our MUD switch blanks. These will fit the 6 'landscape' switches along the top row, along with the 'portrait' heated seat holes above the electric windows.
Power sockets
The 29mm diameter circular recessed hole creates space for mounting a 12v/USB power socket.
On the opposite side recess, we’ve included a 6mm pilot hole. This can be opened up and utilised to relocate the original rotary style Rear Wash/Wipe (now obsolete) switch or for adding another USB power socket.
You can also use our Td5/Tdci style USB sockets which will fit in any of the 8 rectangular genuine switch holes if you have any spare that you don't wish to populate with switches.
Frequently asked Questions
Will the MUD Console fit my post 2002 Td5 Defender?
No! The console only fits 200tdi, 300tdi and the early Td5 vehicles up to 2002. We offer a Double DIN console for the Defender Td5 dashboard please click this link.
I want to fit 'other' switches to my dashboard can I use this console?
The MUD Console 2 has been designed to fit the Land Rover factory switches. If you want to fit different switches, or in different configurations we recommend you choose the MUD Console 1 which gives you a blank canvas to fit whatever switches/ radio configuration you desire.
Will the MUD Console fit my Series III?
Yes the console will fit into a Series III.
